Here are 5 simple anxiety disorder tests that you can do yourself –

1. Emotional symptoms – an anxiety disorder will first manifest emotionally. Some of the symptoms that a person will experience include apprehension or dread, irritability, restlessness, always anticipating the worst, and always watching out for signs of danger. Be conscious of your thoughts and take note if these are things that you do.

2. Physical symptoms – these usually manifest after the emotional symptoms make themselves known, although there are exceptions. Some of the physical symptoms are things like a pounding heart, dizziness, muscle tension, insomnia, fatigue, and tremors and twitches.

3. Feelings of ‘going crazy‘ – one of the main differences compared to plain worry is the feeling of going insane. As mentioned before, one of the emotional symptoms that is caused by an anxiety disorder is the feeling of dread and the constant watching out for danger, even if there is no basis for this whatsoever. Doing this will lead people to think that they are going crazy.

4. Your daily life – will definitely be something that will be affected. If your constant worrying has become so bad that you can’t even concentrate on something as simple as showering or driving, then it is quite possible that you suffer from the disorder.

5. Other related conditions – this disorder will make related conditions present themselves as well. Some of these disorders are things like obsessive-compulsive disorder, heightening of phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder. If you have experienced any of these things in the past but they have started to manifest themselves more clearly, it may be an anxiety disorder that is causing them to do this.

While it is completely possible to overcome this disorder on your own, it will greatly help to have a support group in the form of a psychiatrist or a support group in therapy sessions.
