Feeling anxious before a speech is natural as all humans have an instinctive fear of being exposed to a crowd. While some people let their fear get the most of them, some look for ways to cure their speech anxiety so that they can hone their social skills.

Speaking anxiety is really not something to be too alarmed about, even the best public speakers feel anxious before giving out a big speech in front of a large crowd.
It does not mean that you are any less intelligent or that you have a psychological disorder.
To overcome speaker anxiety, it is important to remind yourself that it is a normal part of life and that is not life-threatening. For those of us that fear public speaking, we have listed some helpful tips below:
• Find out something about your audience so that you can add something that interests them in your speech. Some people get over their anxiety whenever they receive a positive response from their audience and it also gives them a big boost in confidence.
• Whenever you experience heightened symptoms of speaking anxiety while you are in the middle of a speech, focus on something or someone that you are comfortable with. It may help to have a friend in the audience so that you can focus your attention on that person whenever start feeling anxious.
• The key to overcoming speaking anxiety is to feel confident about yourself. People normally feel anxious about speaking in public because they feel insecure, they feel as if they are not good enough and they won’t do a good job. The truth is, the more you think about these thoughts; the more anxious you are going to feel. So think positive thoughts and always tell yourself that you can do it.
• Try to incorporate some humour into your speech. A little humour always puts people into a more comfortable position and it always helps to ease out the tension.
Speaking anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s completely normal to feel nervous while speaking in front of a crowd.
